A Lot of Tracking

Things are going pretty well here. Sadly our most solid gator dropped us out of nowhere. He says he wants to get his health in line before he gets baptized. He's 400 lbs or so and needs knee surgery but were thinking he got anti'd too...... He won't even talk to us.

We've done A LOT of tracking this week. Sifting through people left and right. Seems like Satan has got a great hold on the people here. The Book of Mormon says, many will be deceived by the craftiness of men, and that's exactly what's going on here in Gainesville. We've found 7 new investigators, but they don't seem to be the most promising yet. Few committed for church, but never showed....

Remember the MX track I send pictures of that I went to? We're teaching the property manager! He's been reading the Book of Mormon this last week and is expecting to finish it! Too bad he's out of our area so sooner or later were going to have to refer him to the other Elders in the District. We've gone fishing in the quarries every week since we found em. We had a blast today and I finally caught my first fish. EVER!!

My companion and I are getting along great. Other than he's quiet in teaching and he's got some weird theories of life haha, we love serving with each other.

Sister Young Gets Baptized!

Making Dumplings at Tina's home to prepare for her baptism the next day!

Sister Young

My week has been spectacular! Beginning with Tina Young, the Chinese sister that got baptized. For weeks we were struggling with setting a date for her baptism. She was worried she didn't know enough. Last week she had finished the entire Book of Mormon in English and in Chinese! Along with the Teaching of the Presidents manual, Gospel Principles, and the Bible. Talk about a fast and dedicated reader! She loved every bit of it. Obviously there is a lot she still needs to understand, but hey, we study the gospel our entire lives!

One evening, right after 5 police cars raced into the neighborhood for a drug bust or something just down the street, we had an incredible lesson with Tina and a member in her house. After breaking down faith and repentance in simple terms for her to understand, I invited her to be baptized and she continued to say, "Oh not yet, not yet, I'm still learning." The member stepped right in and read Mosiah 18: 8-10 talking about the people at the waters of Mormon being baptized and how they were desirous to enter into the fold, mourn with those that mourn, comfort those that stand in need of comfort, standing as a witness of God at all times, in all things, and in all places. He then asked Tina if this was the desire of her heart and she said Yes! Then if so, you are ready to be baptized next weekend. And she agreed by saying, "Yes, why not!"

The next day, in order to fit in all the lessons in time, we taught all 12 or so commandments in one lesson with her fully accepting it all. Giving up tea, coffee, her Buddhist statues, and anything else that she needed to change. She was eager to accept.

Charles Moye was referred to us by one of my good friends in 2nd ward from the beginning of my mission. He had talked up the church with his roommate before he left to Georgia and then called us out of nowhere to go visit him. The next day we had an incredible Restoration lesson with him excited to read the Book of Mormon and come to church. He accepted to be baptized that day for August 9th! A few days later we went back to follow up and he had read the Book of Mormon and received a call from his friend. She asked what he was up to and he replied by saying he was meeting with us and reading the Book. She then started to go off with all kinds of anti and terrible things about the church. Multiple wife's, blacks can't be baptized in the church and make it to heaven, woman can't be pastors, on and on and on..... Before he was filled with peace and the love of God and once she said all of these things he started to feel sick inside and recognized it was the influence of the Devil. So he hung up on that chick and blocked her number! Hahaha

I later asked him in this point of his life, if he could ask God one question what would it be? He replied by asking what his purpose was in life and where he came from. We then, having been prepared to teach the Plan of Salvation that day, gave him the pamphlet and we had one of the most spiritual, in detail lesson of the first half of the Plan of Salvation. It was great to teach in unity and feel comfortable in telling him anything because he was so humble and willing to accept all that we had to say. As I was baring my testimony and telling him of my conversion story, we both started to get emotional and feel overwhelmed with the Love of God. Charles had had a rough life, he has given up his old lifestyle and is looking for more peace and direction.

Charles went to church yesterday for all three hours and in Elders Quorum he stood and told everyone that he loves the church, he loves all the people there, and that he's looking forward to being baptized in three weeks and joining the ward family.

Not much luck otherwise in the work. Have talked to many people, and still have a long list of potentials to go through. Were fixin to bake more cookies for the members that need some lovin this week.

Until next time,

Gainesville Florida Raceway

We just went to the best place ever today!!!! Gainesville, Florida Raceway! We befriended the property owner and track groomer. He showed us pictures of Ryan dungeon, Ricky Carmichael and Bubba when he was a kid racing at that exact track. Living a dream, being on a pro motocross track, same as the big leagues. Great thing is, I know that I can ride the entire thing! Nothing too difficult, obviously my time would be a lot slower though. I took 75 pics. We're planning on going back next week to go fishing at the quarry.

They have a motocross track, super cross track and a 9 1/2 mile long track that goes through the woods and around the three quarries.

Walking in the Heat and Getting Poured on by Rain

My comp and I are good friends already. We really enjoy our time together, it's a lot of fun! He's from Moab, so I'm already planning a trip to go and stay with him. He's going to show me all the Hot Spots. Including the 40 or so acres he lives on to trail ride! Can't wait for that!

This week has been hard to stay focused on the work here, easy to be distracted about fun back home. It's also hard because 2 of our most progressing investigators have lost their baptismal dates. They are lazy and comfortable with where their at right now. Don't want to come to church, they make up lame excuses....

Tina is still going great! It's difficult to get her to understand she doesn't need to know everything before she's baptized. She's pretty reserved in class because she's embarrassed she doesn't know very much yet.

Last week it took a good hour to help her understand the principle faith. So the discussions are going pretty slow....

We've been knocking a lot of doors in the rich neighborhoods, have found a few potentials but nothing too solid yet. A lot of hours walking in the heat and humidity and then getting poured on by rain. Gotta love it!

We've got a guy whose created a list of random questions for us to answer. Some doctrinal and some traditional, others absolutely ridiculous... I've enjoyed studying in order to answer all of the many anti and ridiculous questions people ask us. I've had some humbling moments where I feel like I know nothing about our church and how to address people's concerns. Through these experiences my testimony of Joseph Smith has been greatly strengthened. He truly was a remarkable man, the most humble, faithful, sincere, honest, and trustworthy man I know. Other than Christ of course!

I bare witness that the Priesthood has been restored to the earth again, along with all the necessary laws and ordinances needed for us to enter into Gods presence once more. This life is to be enjoyed and the time to prepare to meet God by obedience to these laws and ordinances. We find the most peace, comfort, joy, understanding, and confidence by living the gospel.  I know these things are true, in the name of Jesus Christ amen.
